This Way
Everyone is going somewhere for something. Wherever their destination may be, it got me thinking about how I leave my NYC apartment with a planned route and destination, and how I never let the walk signals dictate my way. Why not every time I have to cross the street and am faced a decision of where to turn, I continue to walk in the direction of where I am allowed to go/turn, not stopping? The direction I walk in will not be chosen by me, but instead by the timing of my walk, the timing of the light changing, the timing of people around me… or perhaps fate.
The goal I have for myself in doing this practice is to force myself to become more comfortable when faced with the unknown future by allowing the world to guide me instead of trying to be in control of it. However, I need a game plan.
1. Start at Union Square 2. Mount a go-pro to my chest and walk for 40 minutes 3. Follow the crosswalk sign in the direction the walk signal allows me to go when faced with the choice 4. Stop and take a picture every five minutes within 5 feet of your location when the timer goes off.
